Exercise snacks are one of the easiest ways to build strength throughout your day. Finding time to exercise isn't always easy. Between work, family, appointments, and everyday life, setting aside 30 or 60 minutes can feel impossible.
That's where exercise snacks come in.
Exercise snacks are short bursts of physical activity, usually lasting 20 seconds to a few minutes, that you perform throughout the day. While each "snack" is brief, together they can have a powerful impact on your strength, fitness, and overall health.
The best part? Almost anyone can find one minute.
Why Exercise Snacks Work
Exercise doesn't have to happen all at once to be effective.
Every time you challenge your muscles, your body responds. Your muscles become stronger, your balance improves, and your brain reinforces the movement patterns that help you stay active and independent.
Research also shows that breaking up long periods of sitting with brief activity can improve blood sugar, circulation, energy levels, and cardiovascular health.
Instead of thinking:
"I don't have time to exercise."
Try thinking:
"Where can I fit one minute of movement?"
Those minutes add up.
Make Exercise Easy
One of my favorite habits is keeping a pair of dumbbells in my living room, not hidden away in a closet.
Seeing them throughout the day reminds me to grab them while the coffee is brewing, during a break, or before sitting down to my computer.
Sometimes I exercise for only 30 seconds.
Sometimes those 30 seconds turn into ten minutes.
The important thing is making movement easy to start.
