Resveratrol is a Good Thing

I’m not sure that resveratrol, a flavonoid found in red wine and grapes, fits neatly into the supplement category — but it is here because it has a story worth telling.

It is an antioxidant that seems to decrease the aging of DNA in mitochondria, the cell’s energy plant. It helps reduce aging of arteries and your immune system.

Already thought to help keep hearts healthy and to ward off certain cancers — it may also turn out to be a fat fighter, according to new research.

So moderate consumption of red wine can be heart healthy. But over indulgence has just the opposite effect. So be careful. From one-half to one glass of red wine daily can be healthful for most women, and up to two glasses daily for most men. Know thyself. Be smart and don't overdo it.
