Never quit, but the doctor said?

by Ron Zeller
(Florence, Ky)

I will soon be 55. I have trained since 1978. In 1982 I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis. In 2010 I had my colon removed. The doctor at Cleveland Clinic said no weight lifting! I am lifting controlled movements but nothing Heavy. I would encourage others to never give up! Even when it seems there is no hope, don't give up! I owe my thanks to God for giving me the strength to get up and try. I am not saying to ignore your doctor . . . but your body will communicate with you, just listen to it. There is nothing like a long relationship with the gym. I have been in and through difficult times, all the while I was thinking, I cannot what to hit the gym! I have met so many people over the years, and made many friends. It may sound strange but I would be lost without working out at the gym.

Good Luck
by: Tommy

Understand your problem. I had UC at age 21 resulting in ileostomy. At 23 I had a Koch Pouch surgery done. Started working out as soon as a month after first surgery. Doctors have to be very cautious as they are afraid of lawyers. Hope all is well. Need to edit my history on this website as I omitted the UC part. Just did not feel like explaining Koch Pouch surgery.

Dr.'s favorite word is no/never. I've had two heart attacks. Dr. said no heavy lifting. At 50 I am lifting heavier and and more intense than I did in high school. Keep it up

I Agree
by: Karon

I agree. I joined the YMCA last year and in June started water firness and in the first month lost no weight but lost inches and felt so much better. Never give up and keep moving, and I am almost 60.
